2023 Third Quarter Newsletter and Member Spotlight

July:

July 20^th, the OBHBA held a lunch met and greet with members of the Hispanic Community. The purpose was to let the Hispanic Community learn more about the Outer Banks Home Builders Association as well as the benefits and value of membership. A huge thank you to Victor Navarro with Kellogg Supply Co. for helping and to Steve Garza with Kellogg Supply Co. Victor has an amazing ability to communicate and bridge the difference in communicating and answering questions on behalf of the Home Builders.

August 24^th the first Continuing Education Class was held NC Licensed General Contractors at the OBHBA office.

September:

September 6^th, Guy C Lee Building materials held an event for Contractors & Project Managers at their location in Kitty Hawk.

September 8^th, Doug Lassiter, Chief Lobbyist for the NC Septic Tank Construction Association spoke at the OBHBA office for those members in attendance.

September 19^th, the 3^rd Quarter OBHBA General Membership meeting was held at 3 Tequila’s. Rich Kenner, the Purchasing/Warehouse Supervisor with the Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative spoke before the members. Rich spoke on safety with overhead and underground power lines, what to do if a power line falls on your vehicle as well as working close to power lines. 

September 21^st, Mike Gallop with Richards Building Supply held an open house at the OBHBA Office with the Certainteed as the main sponsoring vendor.

Member Spotlight- C D Rose Construction LLC

C D Rose Construction, LLC is a family owned and operated business in the paving/grading/concrete construction industry. Chip and Dawson Rose are a father/son team that has over 40 years of experience in the paving and grading business. Chip and Dawson previously worked together at Rose Brothers Paving and upon the sale of the company they both worked at Fred Smith Company. They have and continue to work in the private sector for commercial construction of building pads, parking lots and private subdivisions. We have many years of experience working for the NCDOT and other municipalities to build new roads or resurface existing roads. Many years ago, Chip built sections of the four lane of Highway 64 to Columbia when that road was expanded. More recently during Chip's employment with Fred Smith Company, he managed the paving portion of the road construction going into Colington. Chip's wife, Stephanie Rose, is a CPA and owner of the business. She handles all the back-office work as well as on the road as needed. Stephanie was able to obtain DBE and HUB minority status with her ownership and participation to help companies meet their minority goals for federal and state contracts. Chip and Stephanie are both general contractors in the state of North Carolina. Our office is headquartered out of our home in Nags Head and our shop is located in Winton, NC. Since the inception of our company, we have been afforded the opportunity to have several paving projects right here in our own community in the OBX. We have other contracts in Dare and Currituck County in the pipeline and look forward to working with many other contractors in our community moving forward. We believe in the development and existence of small family owned and operated businesses. We are excited to be a part of the Outer Banks Home Builders Association and hope to meet many of you at meetings or on the job.
