Benefit for Ocracoke Recovery is Huge Success
Our first ever attempt at an Oyster Shuckin'/Pig Pickin' turned out to be a fantastic team effort that became a lot of fun. As we raised just over $4000 for the Ocracoke Hurricane Recovery effort while having a lot of fun, it was a success in every way. It was, however, it was also a lot of hard work and a display of humble generosity. Jay and Jake Overton and Chris Mull and Mike Clary from Kempsville Building Materials, started at 4 a.m. with the pigs; Vaughan Robinson of Coastal Cottage Contracting and Nathan Neal Cozy Kitchens Group were in constant motion for the best part of five hours steaming those oysters! Special shout-outs to the servers, staffers and bakers of fine desserts - Phyllis Hobbs, Julie A Walter, Sandy Martin, Kaye Jones and Deborah Overton. Others who sponsored to defray the cost of the food and other necessary event items include A & A Atlantic, Beach House Flooring & Tile Co., Coastal Cottage Contracting, Cozy Kitchens Group and Kempsville Building Materials and Sandmark Custom Homes. Because of these folks and our Outer Banks Home Builders Association members who came out, invited the community and spread the word, not only was a good time had by all, but we will be able to make a difference for Ocracoke. Next step: when the road is open, we have work crews lined up!
