OBHBA 2020 Scholarship Recipients

OBHBA 2020 Scholarship Recipients

It is my honor and privilege on behalf of the Outer Banks Home Builder's
Association and our Scholarship Committee to present six scholarships totaling $6,000 to deserving local high school students.

Primarily through two golf tournaments and a silent auction each year, we raise
money to be able to award scholarships to deserving students whose parents are members or whose parents work for members of the Home Builder's Association. Or who are students set on a career in the trades or construction management and can be recommended by any OBHBA member.

Each member of our evaluating committee independently rates each applicant in the following areas:
Their letter, demonstrating focus and motivation
     Academic Achievement
     Leadership Potential
     Community Contribution
     School Contribution
     Dependability
     and Concern for Others

After this, the committee meets again as a group to compare individual results
and determine the final awards.

As always, the competition is tough, with many well-qualified applicants. We are thrilled to award five $1000 scholarships to First Flight High School students and another $1000 scholarship to a student attending Cape Hatteras High School.

Our first award goes to a young lady who will be studying for a long time in order to achieve her goals in the field of Dentistry. Congratulations Sarah Nicole York.

Our second award will be awarded to another young lady that also has desires to save lives and work in the medical field as she pursues her degree in Public Health. Congratulations Alexandra Conley.

We have some super smart candidates this year as we have yet another student that plans to pursue a degree in the medical field. Congratulations to Danielle Davalos as she prepares to become a Pediatrician or a Surgeon.

It is also a pleasure to announce that our fourth scholarship will go to Myles Sillies as he heads to Advanced Technology Institute to study Automotive Technology, a career that he is so passionate about.

Our last award going to FFHS is reserved for a young person entering the construction industry. We are pleased to announce this award will go to Kenneth Crawford, Jr., better known as KJ, as he pursues his studies at ATI Advanced Technology Institute studying Maritime Welding Technology.

Our recipient from Cape Hatteras High School is Sophie Waterfield. Her trip studying abroad in Mexico forever changed her. Sophie will be pursuing her degree in Spanish Education this fall.

We wish success to all the 2020 graduates and thank you for allowing the Outer Banks Home Builder's Association to be a part of this exciting time in your lives.

Warmest regards,

Kaye Jones
Scholarship Chair
