2023 Second Quarter Newsletter and Member Spotlight

April:

April 5^th, the Spring Golf Tournament was held at Sea Scape Golf Links.  Thank you to all the teams and all the sponsors, and a special thank you to OBX Chevrolet for sponsoring the hole-in-one.

April 19^th, the second General Membership Meeting was held at 3 Tequilas.  Guest speakers were Matthew Byrne, Northeast Regional Director, ECSU, and Dave Hallac, Superintendent of the US National Park Service for Cape Hatteras National Seashore and the Outer Banks Group in North Carolina.

April 24^th thru 25^th, the Be Pro Be Proud trailer was at the COA Dare Campus.  Students from the local middle schools and high schools were able to experience high tech simulators from welding, to plumbing, building a wall, machine operation and welding.  There were over 300 students that were able to come see the trailer and experience real life situations on the simulators. Thank you to all the volunteers, without you this event would not have been as successful.

April 26^th, the NCHBA Builders Classic Golf Tournament was held in Raleigh.  OBHBA President Blair Meads was presented as the winner of the Presidents Cup after the tournament.  Congratulations!

May:

May 18^th, member Alex Acevedo with Royal Building Products held a lunch and learn at the OBHBA Office. 

May 23^rd thru 24^th the NCHBA Legislative Conference and 2^nd Quarter Board Meeting was held in Raleigh.  During the Board Meeting, it was announced that Carl (Pogie) Worsley will be inducted into the NCHBA Housing Hall of Fame at the NCHBA 4^th Quarter Meeting in Winston Salem on December 5^th.  He joins Duke Geraghty, inducted in 2012 and Dave Stormont, inducted in 2020.

June:

June 2^nd, the OBHBA Reverse Raffle was held.  Thank you to all who purchased tickets and provided prizes.  We would like to thank Kempsville Building Materials and Dominion NC Energy for sponsoring this event.  The grand price was $5000.00.  The runner up was gifted a beautiful throwback painting from Daniels Homeport, the runner up was Earl Ross, and the grand prize winner was Mark Martin.
